Future pianist? 子供とおもちゃの因果な関係

There is no way to know if your kids (or your cats) will like the toys you buy.  Sometimes they instantly show interest and then that toy is left unattended for days until some other kids come visit and  start to play.  Then it suddenly becomes "my favorite toy in the whole world", so the other kids can't have.  

My daughter Amane likes singing, dancing, (especially her original song "shake your booty" ) so I thought it was a great idea to get her the toy piano.  What more wonderful was that I found it at the garage sale for $20!  

When we brought it home, she started to play a little and then since then, it's been just sitting in her room.  Maybe I should encourage her more? Or she'll like it more when she's older?  I have no clue, but I, mommy is happy to have it just because it is a very pretty piano.  I should probably stop buying toys simply because I like how they look...hmmm

このおもちゃは絶対に家の子（と猫）は気に入るだろうと思って裏切られた事は数知れず。

世話焼き婆がお見合い相手を次から次へと連れてくるかの如く、色々持って来てはあっさり振られる日々。

最近雨音は気がつけば自作の歌を口ずさみ、（昨今のお気に入りは"shake your booty" 訳：お尻ふりふり）ゆらゆら踊っている。

これは音楽好きって事？ならばと日本に帰国される方が出品されていた子供サイズピアノを20㌦にて張り切って購入。

ピアノ到着後10分程度は狂った天才のように鍵盤を叩いておりましたが、その後は完全放置。

あれ？興味、なかったですか…撃沈の母

いや、きっと今は身体動かす方が楽しくてじっくりピアノに向かうなんてね、そりゃ無理ってもんよ、神童じゃあるまいし。

もちっと大きくなれば分かりませんよ、お母さん。

と自分を励ます。

でも小さいのに良く出来てるこのピアノ。置いておくだけでも愛らしいので良しとする。

もしかすると弟海晴の方が興味示すかもしれないしな。

子供は予測不可能で未知数、そこが面白いんだけどね。

I'm back! ご無沙汰しました

I have been pretty sick for the past few weeks, I just got the result of my latest lab work and the Dr.  told me they didn't find anything.  Ok, well, so what was all the stomachache and fever!?

I figured it must have been a stress since I started to feel sick the day I started to watch kids by myself after my mother went back to Japan. I really didn't want to admit to it, but hey, accepting your weakness is the first step to conquer it, right?  I am feeling much better and there are tons of stuff needs to be done, so be brave, me!  There is no time to sit, cry and feel sorry for myself! 

ここ数週間ずっと体調不良で、何度か病院にもかかって色々と検査もしました。

本日最後の検査結果が出て、特に何の問題もナシ。

具合が悪くなり始めたのが丁度母が帰国し、1人で子供達を見始めた日の事。

結局ストレスだったんだな。と納得する事にしました。

そんなんで体調を崩した自分の弱さに驚愕したものの、まぁ認める事で前進できるってこともある。

そう開き直ると何だかスッキリ、気付くとしなければならない事は山積み。

さーてと腕まくりして、片っ端から片付けにかかろうと思います。っしゃー

Fashion Baby キッズコーデ

I recently discovered that yellow is the color for Amane.  I like how kids clothes are so bright and colorful here in the States.  It seems people prefer monotone or very pale colors for kids in Japan.  I love mix and match different colors and patterns.  I want to try bright colors myself this summer, too!  My usual is black and navy all year long, it's time for a change!

最近雨音は黄色が似合う事を発見。

アメリカ子供服は何と言っても原色、ネオンカラー等々、目の覚めるよな色が多い。

まぁ確かに似合うんだな、これが。こっちの子供達は。

街を歩くと「おーその組み合わせがあったか！斬新！」と勉強になる事も多い。

最近は柄×柄が楽しい、子供も私もね。

今年の夏はパッとした色を着たいな〜やっと妊婦服から解放された事ですし。

Bargain hunting! 子供服バーゲン！

Kid to Kid is having a semi-annual sale that started last Thursday,  I had my mother-in-law watching kids and went there to stock up some kids clothes.  Now we have 2 kids, girl and a boy, I feel like we're constantly in need for new clothes for them.  Especially for Kaisei, who is growing out of size 3 month already... He is only 1 and a half months, yikes!  

Anyway, everything was 10% off in store and 40% off of already marked down items.  Also There were $1 bin in front of the casher,  and they come down to 60 cents each!  What a bargain!! 

I love love shopping and bargains, so I had such a good time!  I wish I had more time,  (I didn't want to exhaust grandmama by watching two kids too long) so I could see bigger size for the coming years.  Oh well, in the end, I got 2 tops,  a dress, 3 skirts, a shorts for Amane.  3 shirts, 3 rompers and a overall for Kaisei.  And it was $20 and something, ( I used $5 off coupon when you spend more than $25) 

I used the store credit I had from selling unwanted items before, so I didn't spend a dime!  Awesome!  

Kid to Kid have clothes and toys that are really in good condition, even though the store itself is pretty small, I love it!  

先週木曜は義母に子供達を見てもらい、子供リサイクルショップの半年に1度のセールへ。

子供が2人になり、姉弟と言う事もあって、常に服の需要がある我が家。

特に海晴は1ヶ月半にして、3ヶ月用の服がぴっちぴっち。という半端ない成長っぷり。

定価で買ってなんかはいられません。

その日は店内全て10％オフ、更に値下げされたものからはそこから更に40％オフ、またレジ前には全て1㌦の箱！（そこから40％になるので、最終価格はなんと60セント（約60円！）

この日はセール初日とあってかなり混んでいましたが、脇目もふらず黙々と買う。元々即決買いするタイプなので、迷いはしないんす。

できれば大きめのサイズも見たかったけど、何せ義母に子を預けてる身。後ろ髪引かれる思いで店を後にしました。

結局、雨音はトップス2枚、スカート3枚、ショーパン1枚。海晴はトップス3枚、ロンパース3着、オーバーオール1枚。総額＄20弱（2000円位）なり！

更にこのお店では、ここに不要になったおもちゃや服を売ると、その分をストアクレジットとして、次の買い物に使える仕組みになっていて、私は20㌦以上残っていたので、今回は無料で全てをゲット！ばんざーい、主婦の鑑！（自己満足で生きてます）

これで冬物買う時期まではしばらく過ごせる…はず。

息子よ、ゆっくり育っておくれー

Daycare or not? 託児所探しの旅

We went to check out the Japanese day care yesterday.  Currently I'm not working, but I am seriously considering to go back to work.  Nothing is decided at this moment because we're planning to visit Japan this autumn and my job search situation etc.  But I heard sometimes it takes months before your kids can get into a daycare, so I decided to go ahead and visit.

Couple of my friends' kids go there, so I knew what to expect, more or less.  The building is kinda old, doesn't have the best curb appeal or anything, but hey, what's inside counts, right?  

Each class has two teachers who speaks Japanese and English, and it seemed like they took turns and did songs / books in both languages.  

The head teacher let Amane stay in the class while we took a tour of the daycare.  Amane decided to sit with other kids for the book time and didn't care I let the room.  I guess that's a good sign.

Overall, I liked it a lot, my friend told me that they provide pretty good lunch ( mostly Japanese food) and all the stuff were friendly.  And I think it'll help her to improve her Japanese, too.  I am planning to look few more places, I hope we can find something suitable for our family.

昨日は日系のデイケア（託児所）を見学に行ってきました。雨音もこの10月で2歳、家で大人（私）とばかり過ごすより同年代の子供達と思う存分遊んだ方が良いのでは、特に海晴が産まれてからは手を掛けてあげられないのもあって、と思うようになった最近。

日本語も学べるし、家からも近い、更に友人の子供達も通ってるという事で入学を検討してるこのデイケア。

建物の年季の入り具合と外の色褪せた遊具にややひるみながら訪れたものの、中は清潔そうだし、園長先生も大層きさくなお方。

説明を聞く間、雨音を1歳児のクラスに参加させて下さいました。みんな座って絵本の読み聞かせの中、新しいおもちゃを発見しふらふらと彷徨う我が娘を横目にみながら他のクラスを見学。

各クラスに英語と日本語が母国語の先生が1人ずつ、授業は２カ国語で進んでる様子でした。

待機リスト決定かと心配してましたが、「ま、大丈夫そうです、いつでも」という力強い、と同時に若干心細いお返事。

こちらも秋の長期の帰省や、私が社会復帰しようかな（再就職です、悪さをした訳ではござんせん）等々まだ未確定要素満載のため仕方ないか。

他もまだ見てみる予定ですが、やっぱバイリンガルというのは大きいな、我が家の場合。

Retro Toys! レトロ玩具

Amane stayed with grandparents last weekend, which means we had some time to browse stores a little bit.  Almost 2 year old toddler is too curious to shop with!

My husband is a big fan of foreign films ( it really surprises me how people don't watch foreign movies here because they can't be bothered to read subtitles! They are missing out so much ) and Burns and Noble had a sale on Criterion movies, so we decided to check it out.  While he was deciding which movie to get, Kaisei and I wondered around the store and found those precious toys.  I love anything retro, vintage and antique.  I had to fight my desire to buy all of them and finally, my willpower won, I was very proud of myself.  Mainly because Amane usually don't like the toys I get her just because I like how they look, so I want to bring her and let her decide.  They also had a record player, that was super adorable, too!

To have toy storage set up is top of my to do list right now, so I guess it was for the best we didn't get any of them!  I always forget how much toys we have at home...something needs be done, quick.

何だか憎めないこの面構え

週末雨音は旦那実家へ遠征。

この機会を逃すまいと、海晴が産まれて一旦頓挫していた「人を呼べる家作り」の為の買い物へ。

もうすぐ2歳の幼児を連れての家具屋はまぁー落ち着いては見れませんのでね。はい。

そして遂に念願の本棚を購入！届くのは今週水曜、わくわく〜

更に邦画大好きな旦那のお目当て、海外作品を多く扱うメーカーの半額セールを見にとある書店へ。

彼がDVDを物色してる間、海晴と私は店内を散策。（結局彼は巨匠小津安二郎の『晩春』を購入）

そこで見つけたレトロな玩具↑　何と愛らしい事でせう！無類のレトロ好きとしてこれは買わないと…と逸る気持ちを落ち着かせる。待て待て、大体私が見かけが可愛いという理由のみで買ったおもちゃは子供/猫ともに喜ばないってのがオチ、しかも定価。

てな訳で久々に理性の勝ち。今度雨音を連れて反応を探ってみよう。

他にもレコードプレーヤーなんかがありました。しかし今見返してもやっぱり可愛いなぁ。

そういえば昔、何かの付録にセロハンを厚くしたようなレコードが付いてた。懐かしい。応募者全員プレゼントとかも躍起になってたあの頃。

ちなみに『りぼん』派でした。

Power of Swaddle スワドル/おくるみのススメ

We have been very fortunate when it comes to baby sleeps.  Amane was a great (still is) sleeper from the very beginning, we even had to wake her up for the night time feeding at her first month. 

Kaisei started to sleep between 6-7 hours straight after his 1st month check up.  I am so glad because there were few times he woke up in the middle of the night and didn't go back to sleep for at least 2 hours.  Nothing seemed to work, singing, swaddling, rocking, uh-uh, nothing.  He was wide awake.  Thank goodness he decided to sleep nowadays and I am grateful that both of our kids took amazing sleep skill from their daddy.  He can really sleep, I believe if I let him, he'd sleep all day. 

We swaddled Amane everyday until she moved up to sleep sack, and we recently started using SwaddleMe for Kaisei because he was getting out of it by himself.  I think he sleeps better with it than the blanket, maybe it was due to our poor swaddling skills... Anyway, I would definitely recommend it!

ご満悦

雨音誕生前に受けた両親学級のクラスでスワドル（おくるみ）に初遭遇。

それまではおくるみって抱く時にのみするモノだと思っていたので、ぐるぐる巻にして赤ちゃんは眠るのか、フムフムと妙に感心した覚えがあります。

寝る事に関しては、雨音は1ヶ月を過ぎた頃から６−７時間ぶっ続けで寝るという大層親孝行な娘。

放っとけば１日中寝るであろう旦那のDNAを継承する者。

一方の海晴、最近1ヶ月を過ぎてからは雨音と同じ位寝るようになってくれましたが、生後数週間は夜中の授乳後2-3時間起きっ放しという暴挙に…まぁ何をしても寝なかったです。

この日々がずっと続いたらどうしようとぞっとしてましたが、取り越し苦労だったな、ありがとう、息子よ。

話はそれましたが、我が家は2人共スワドルを採用。

最初の1月は正方形の布でくるみ、その後は寝袋のような簡易版（写真）を使っています。

個人的には簡易版の方がすやすや良く寝る気が。我らの布の巻き方が下手なだけ？むむ。

日本でも私が知らなかっただけで、してるのかな。

スワドル、苦手な子もいるようですが、個人的にはおすすめです。

さやえんどうみたいで可愛いし。
