Living with Green 緑と暮らす

Ever since I started watching "Fixer Upper" on HGTV, I've been obsessed with Joanna (the designer) 's design.  I LOVE (almost) everything she does.  Her style is very simple, farmhouse-like, vintage and a bit industrial.

I have been so inspired by her and have been trying to incorporate her ideas to our house.  I started to display greens on the mantle to begin with.  I'd love to have indoor small trees, but I know the cats won't leave them alone, oh, and my 9 months son, too, so that has to wait.

Those eucalyptus leaves are from Trader Joe's and they are $2.99 each.  They smell great and last for a long time, what a bargain!  I got those white flowers ( I have no idea whet they are called... shame on me. ) from there, too and they're also $2.99.  Trader Joe's is a great place to get reasonable greens and flowers.

I am also dreaming about having rustic white bedroom and I am in search for a white quilt.  I already have specific design in mind and that always makes it hard to find "the one".  But I guess that is a part of fun working on the project.  But I really need it for the spring!!



インテリアに関しては、これまでは割と柄×柄とかの派手な組み合わせが好きだったんですが、最近シンプルに方向転換しつつあります。
というのも、こちらアメリカのケーブルで現在放映中の、まぁ日本で言えば「ビフォーアフター」的な番組のデザイナーのデザインが好き過ぎる。ど真ん中。

シンプルで機能的、でもところどころにアンティーク雑貨やヴィンテージ風雑貨も取り入れつつ、そしてとにかく植物の使い方がステキなんです。
んでもって影響の受けやすさにいては右に出る者はいないこの私。えへん
早速、緑を取り入れるとこから始めてみました。

ユーカリは、オーガニック系スーパーTrader Joe's にて一束3㌦（約300円）、白の花も同じ値段で、合計1000円以下で暖炉の上がすっかり緑の空間に。
更にユーカリはすーっとした良い香りがして、リラックス効果がある、ような気がする。うん。
ミルク入れのミニ緑はキッチンに。

本当は観葉植物欲しいけど、猫と9ヶ月男児が放っておかないだろーなと最初から諦めております。

この勢いに乗って、寝室ももっと白を使った空間に！を夢見ていますが
いかんせん、思い描いているキルトもしくは布団カバーが見つからない。
おーっこれこれ！と思ったら何万円もしたりするし…ちッ
めげずに探し続けます。

フレッシュな気持ちで春を迎える為にも、それまでに出会えるといいなぁ。

Volunteer movie translation! 映画『うまれる ずっと、いっしょ。』翻訳ボランティア参加しました

I have had quite a few different kinds of jobs before and after moving to the US.  But I enjoyed the work that involved the translation the most.  I always loved reading and writing ever since I was a little girl, I guess I like plating with words, pretty nerdy, I know. '

Anyway,  my friend shared the story on FB that they were looking for volunteer translator for the upcoming movie.  I'm not sure what the English title will be, but this is the sequel to the documentary "Being Born".  The story of birth, family and life.

I immediately applied to volunteer and luckily, they picked me to translate about 10 minutes of the movie.  Then to my surprise, they asked me to do the trailer, too after I submitted the translation for my part.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen those movies yet, but the trailer itself is enough to make me cry, it'll be difficult to watch the whole movie without a box of tissue, I'm sure.
Let's hope it'll make to the US!





もう1ヶ月程前ですが、元同僚がフェイスブックにて『映画　うまれる、ずっと、いっしょ。』
制作スタッフが、翻訳ボランティアを募集してるとの記事を投稿しているのを発見。

これ迄翻訳の仕事は幾つかしてきましたが、映像の翻訳は未経験、でもこれは楽しそう、やってみたいとの好奇心が勝って、早速応募する事に。

短い翻訳のテストを含むフォームを送信後、数日で是非お願いしたいとの返答を頂きました。早速取りかかったものの、話し言葉を訳すのは簡単そうで意外に難しい。
何度も映像を繰り返し見ては、直訳でなく、その場の雰囲気、感情が伝わるように訳すように心掛ける。

やっと納得の行く訳が完成し、提出した数日後、また連絡を頂き、今度は予告編を訳して欲しいとの依頼を頂きました。
頑張った甲斐があった、何て光栄な、勿論喜んで引き受けました。

久しぶりに〆切までに何かをこなす事で、やり遂げたーっていう達成感を味わえて何とも新鮮な経験でした。

家事育児も労働だけれど、結果が目には見えないし、ここで終わりってのが無い中で、あぁ、私はこういう事に飢えていたんだなと改めて気付かされる。

って事で早速就職活動再開←単純なのは長所です。
日本帰省からアメリカに戻って来たら、社会復帰してやろうと目論見中。
待ってろよ、アメリカ社会。（立ち向かう相手がでかすぎですか）

話はそれましたが。
この映画、未公開なので全編は見てませんが、予告編だけでもう涙、涙。
命を真剣に、真っ正面から見据えて考える映画だと思う。
どうかアメリカでも上映されますように！

Beat the skin trouble! アメリカ肌トラブルにはこれ!

Fortunately, I never had serious skin problem, but from time to time, I have breakouts on my face.  Most recent one was right after I had Kaisei, mainly because of all those hormone going crazy and minimum sleeping hours. 

But also because I was eating so much chocolate and cheesecakes.  I swear breast feeding makes you starving all the time! 

Anyway, when this happens, I use apricot scrub and Witch Hazel.  

I wash my face with the scrub, then wash again with the usual facial soap and wipe my face with Witch Hazel using cotton rounds.  The next day, my skin feels soft and minor acne-like spots are gone!  They are definitely my to-go facial treatments.  Some people might not enjoy the smell of Witch Hazel, but I don;t mind it at all.  It just smells like vinegar.  

And I'm using Kroger brand apricot scrub and it does its job just fine. I've tried other ones like St, Ives and Burt's Bees, but I really like the one I use now.  Especially when you can get them less thank half the price of Burt's Bees! 

虫さされにも効いちゃう万能選

幸いな事にあんま肌トラブルは無い方ですが、時には吹き出物が出ちゃったりもします、女子なんで。

特に産後はホルモンががっちゃがちゃになるわ睡眠不足だわで、肌も悲鳴を上げます。

甘い物も大量喰いしてたしなー何せ母乳育児はお腹が空く。

そういう時のわらわの必需品は、フェイススクラブとウィッチヘーゼル！（写真上）

アメリカのスクラブはアプリコットの種の粒がかなり大きくて、毛穴に対してかなり攻めの姿勢、本気でこすると痛い目に。洗った後はさっぱりだけど。

その後いつもの洗顔料で洗い、仕上げにウィッチヘーゼルで拭き取り。

これで翌日はかなりつるつる、スッキリします。ちょっとした吹き出物も消滅。

スクラブは色々試しましたが、どこのも大差はナシ。

今はスーパーのオリジナルブランドのを使ってますが、Burt's Beesとかよりも逆に良い気がする、値段も半額以下だし。

ウィッチヘーゼルはちょっと酢っぽい独特の匂いがあるので苦手な人はあれかもですが、私は全く気にならず、おすすめです。

New light switch Covers! リビングルーム完成への道程

We have been extra busy with the arrival of our son,  but for some reason, that's when I get motivated to do extra stuff like cleaning the closet or decorating the house!

I have been looking for cute light switch covers for a while, but I didn't quite find the one I really like.  Then finally, I found those super adorable red iron covers at The Noteworthy Nest on Etsy.  They are $6.25 each, you can't beat that!! 

The owner responded to my inquiries very quickly and she made it very easy to custom made them for me.  And I am more than happy with them!  They added a little charm to our living room.  I really would love to change all the switch covers in the house, but that'll take a while.. we'll see!

人が1人増えて毎日わたわたの我が家ですが、こういう時に限って新しい事に手をつけたくなる私。

昔から、テスト期間中に大掃除を始めるタイプの女です。

まだまだ発展途上中の我が家ですが、せめてお客さんの目につくリビング位はって事で、未だに物色中の大物家具はさておき、小物から地味に収集。

まずは電気スイッチカバーを購入して取り替えました。

手作りやビンテージが盛り沢山の大好きなサイトEtsyにて発見。1個＄6.25（630円位）とお値段も可愛い。

小さな変化ですが、赤が目立ってなかなかの存在感。非常にご満悦。

今後は家中のカバーを変えてやろうと目論見中。長丁場になりそうです。

さーて次は何をしようかな。

Mix and Match Dining Chairs 我が家のダイニングルーム

I would probably say the only room that is done in our new house is the breakfast area.  It took us a while to find a small dining table and chairs, but I really like them!  I wanted to mix and match the chairs and I think they work well together.

We bought the table from Southern omforts Consignment, and the chairs are from Queen of Hearts Antiques and Interiors, one of my favorite antique mall in the area.  I can walk around that stores for hours and find tons of stuff I love! 

And one of my favorite piece of decoration is the bird cage wall shelf in the breakfast area.  It's from World Market.  Another store I just love, they have many unique things every time I visit. 

We still have long way to go to finish the house, but it's a fun project!

ビンテージ食器と象の急須

まだまだ完成への道程は遠い我が家。

まぁほぼ出来上がってると言えそうなのはキッチン横のブレックファストエリア。

（アメリカではフォーマルダイニングルームというのがある家が多く、そこは来客なんかがあった時に食事をする別個のスペースで、ブレックファストエリアとは分けて使われています、我が家も普段の食事は専らキッチン横）

これだ！というテーブルと椅子を見つける迄結構な時間が掛かってしまったけど、なかなか満足しています。

椅子はどうしても色違い、形違いにしたかったので、結局全て違うお店から買う羽目に。

でもリサイクルショップやアンティークモールで調達したので、破格での入手に成功したのでした。ふふふ

そしてこのエリアでもう1つ気に入っているのが鳥かご型の壁棚。

夏になったらもうちょっとカラフルな雑貨を入れようかなと検討中。

遅々として進まない我が家のインテリアですが、あれこれ考えるのも楽しいもの。

それにしてもリビングが只今の最重要課題だな…

アメリカでメロンパン

アメリカに住んでいると、無性に食べたくなる日本食の数々。

特に私はラーメン激戦区北海道は旭川出身なので、ひいきの店の味噌ラーメンやら、道産子と言えばこれ、ジンギスカン等々突如食べたくて悶え苦しむ事もしばしば（大袈裟なのは、次女の特徴）

最近は酒のつまみのカルパスが食べたくて食べたくて胸をかきむしる日々でございます。

アメリカでも類似品は出回ってるんだけど、これがしょーもない不味さ。不満。

そして妊娠中何故かどうしても食べたくなるメロンパン。

雨音の時も今回もメロンパン〜メロンパン〜と脳から指令が。

勿論日系パン屋さんに行けば売っているのですが、近場に無いし、食べたい頻度が半端ないので、これ作った方が良いのでは。

とふと思うも、パン作りは面倒くさそう。やった事ないし。

ってな訳で、神クックパッドにて

「アメリカ　メロンパン」で検索

おー簡単メロンパンの作り方載ってる、さすが神。

（参考にしたレシピ）

材料は冷凍パン生地と、既製クッキー生地のみ。

ホントにこれでできんすか、と半信半疑ながらもメロンパンの誘惑には坑えない。

そして肝心の出来上がりは…

正真正銘のメロンパン！！！！

Horse back riding アメリカ乗馬体験

One thing my niece really wanted to do here was to go horseback riding.  Luckily, my mother-in-law's hairdresser introduced us to a person who owns Southern Cross Guest Ranch in Madison, GA.

My husband, who has been riding horses for all his life, my sister, nephew and niece took an hour trail ride.

They all had so much fun and that was all my niece talked about until she left, I am so glad they got to experience it. 

They told us that minimum age for a child for riding is 4, so in 3 years, we'll be able to take Amane for a ride with us!  But I don't think I can wait that long for my turn to ride.  Maybe I will ask this for my birthday present next year!

牧場少女雨音

漫画『銀の匙』に感化され、アメリカに来たならば絶対に乗馬をしたいと言っていた姪。

（影響されやすいのは家系なのか。私も影響されやすさにおいては右に出る者など存在しない勢いの女）

たまたま義母の美容師の知り合いが、ジョージア州マディソンにある宿泊施設も兼ねた牧場の経営者で、そこでの乗馬体験をアレンジしてくれました。

一時期は実家にて馬を飼っていた乗馬経験豊富な旦那ちゃんと我が姉、甥、姪の4名が挑戦。

まずは馬のブラッシングをする所から開始、その後1時間の草原での乗馬へと旅立って行きました。

馬の背中から眺める景色は壮大で大層気持ちよかったそうな。

姪は余りの感動に

「帰ったらパパに馬買ってって頼んでみよう」

と今春中学校入学とは思えない能天気発言。そんな彼女に幸あれ。

義母、義父、私（妊婦）と雨音は今回は見学。（子供が乗れるのは4歳からだそう）

子馬を見たり、牧場中にわらわら生息する犬猫と戯れておりました。

何はともあれ、念願かなった姪と翌日身体中の痛みと戦っていた姉。

アメリカならではの経験ができて良かった。

って住んでる所北海道なんだから乗馬ってやってる所あるんじゃ…？

White Wall in living room 白い壁

We have been in our new house for almost 3 months, but the work is still in progress.  I have a long list of furniture I'd like to upgrade, but they don't come cheap, so that has to wait a while.  Oh well. 

We have quite a space in the living room wall and still working on them, but we're quite happy with the "white wall" we created.  

I might add few more open frames, but I am pretty pleased with how it turned out!

1月に引越してから早いものでもうすぐ3ヶ月が過ぎようとしています。

不自由なく毎日を過ごせるようにはなったものの、まだまだ未完成な部屋ばかり。

特にリビングは大物家具を買い足さないといけない状況にあって、でも家具ってのはお高い買い物。ゆるりとしか揃っていかないのであります。くぅ〜宝くじでも当たんないかな。

まぁそんな事言ってても始まらないので、まずはできる事から。

ってな訳で玄関からリビングに入った所の壁を『白い壁』と命名。白物のみを飾る事に。

オープンフレーム、あと数個足してもいいかなと思っていますが、なかなかの出来。

白枠写真立てと中のポストカードはIKEA。こういうベーシック系は必ずあるので便利。

残りの壁は本棚（探し中）とネコが登れる棚（のような物、これも探し中）になる予定。

暖炉の上に飾る鏡も欲しいしな〜

欲しい物は尽きず。

We have moved! 家買いました

It has been a while since I published a post here.  There have been many changes in our lives, we bought our first house and we are pregnant with baby (boy) #2!  It has been an emotional roller coaster for sure.  

But thanks to the support from my family and friends, I am feeling much better and decided to start this blog once again while I have some time before the baby is born!  

New baby nursery has a long way to go before it's done,  but Amane's room is almost done.  I decided to put both kids' initial on their room door.  Here is A for Amane. 

Personally, I love Hobby Lobby for their selection of scrapbooking papers.

I need to start working on baby #2's initial, too.  Soon!! 

大変ご無沙汰致しております。

昨年9月に第２子の妊娠が発覚、今年1月の引越とわらわら忙しい日々を過ごしていました。

今回の妊娠は情緒不安定っぷりが半端なく、一番身近な旦那ちゃんはえらい被害を被ってらっしゃるはず、言葉にはなかなか出せないけど（出せよ）感謝してます。

さてさて、念願のマイホームに引越した我ら、少しずつですが形になってきたような気がします。

メインのリビングルームが遅々として進まないのが玉に傷ですが（大型家具って高いのよね…）雨音部屋はドアに付けるイニシャルも(↑）作ってほぼ完成。

新生児部屋は全く手つかずの状態で、あと１ヶ月半とかで産まれちゃうのに大丈夫かって気もしますが、まぁ何とかなるでしょう。２人目の扱いってこんなもんなのかなーはは

2番手が産まれるまでの間、またしばらくこのブログにお付き合い頂けたらと思います。

A stroll in the sun / 産後ダイエットの心得

It was such a lovely day last Friday that I decided to take Amane out for a walk. Luckily, there are many great parks around where we live.  We took a nice, leisurely walk on a trail in the woods for about 45 minutes.

I have exercised regularly since Amane was born, but not as much as I would like to.  So I feel like I should take every opportunity to go outside and at least take a walk.

Amane usually sleeps in the stroller, so I can't tell yet if she likes to be outdoors or not. But I can't wait to do all kinds of outdoor fun things with her in the future!

橋からの眺め、緑が濃くなるのが待ち遠しい

出産後およそ3ヶ月で体重は妊娠前に戻ったのですが、やはり体型の変化は否めない。

顕著なのは腰〜お尻のあたり。

確かに人間一人通ったんだから仕方ないっちゃ仕方ないんだけど。

と諦めちゃ女が廃るって事で、週2のズンバを初め、出来る範囲での運動を心がけています。本当はジョギングもしたいけど、なんせ時間が足りない。

いや、むしろ時間管理の問題かしら。

それはさておき、先週金曜は気持ちのよい晴天だったので、雨音を連れて散歩へ。

幸いこの辺りには公園が沢山あって、小1時間程度の散歩にはぴったり。

親子で自転車やジョギング、犬を連れて散歩してる人もちらほら。

すやすや眠る雨音の乗ったベビーカーを押しながら、彼女がもう少し大きくなったら一緒にできる事を考えながらわくわくしたのでした。

Books from NY 本を読む事

One of the most difficult things about living in the States for me is the very limited access to Japanese books.

If I was in LA or NY, I could go to Japanese bookstores and even second hand bookstores.  But I can only dream about them here in ATL. 

But a very sweet co-worker of my husband got me some books when she visited NY last week.  I am so excited and can't wait to read them!

I have always loved reading and my mom even made me a "library bag" to take with me when I started elementary school so I could carry extra books. I carried it everyday and I became really good friends with an old lady who worked at my school library.  In elementary school, I wore pink-framed glasses and I always had a few books with me wherever I went. How cute is that?

東野圭吾は裏切られてもまた読んでしまう、複雑な女心

アメリカに住む上で1番不便なのは、日本語の本が簡単に手に入らない事。

私は今でこそ初めて会った人にもちゃんと挨拶できる立派な大人に成長したものの（当たり前）中身はピンクの眼鏡をかけていた７歳の頃から足繁く図書館に通う根暗な少女のまま。

つまり、常に本に囲まれて生活したい訳なんです。

せっかく英語も話せるんだし英語の本読めばいいじゃん。

と思われるのは当然の事。

でも面倒くさい。単語調べながら読むとかいう忍耐力のない私。

でもそろそろ読む本無くなって来たな、そわそわ。してる私の元に救世主現る。

その方は旦那ちゃんの隣の席で働く日本通の素敵女子。彼女が先週ニューヨークに行った際にわざわざ本を買ってきてくれたのです、何て良い人。惚れそうです。

ちびがちびなので、読める時間は限られるけれども楽しみ。

それにしても相変わらず暗いな、本の選択が。

Smoothie Life

Ever since I had my daughter, my craving for sweets has increased and I have been addicted to Chips Ahoy. 

To lessen my guilt and eat more fruits and vegetables, I started making smoothies.

These actually taste pretty good and they make you feel healthier and your skin look better.  Plus it's much cheaper than going to smoothie places everyday!

Here is my recipe:

Pink Smoothie

5 Strawberries 

2 Oranges

1 Banana 

5 Slices of frozen peaches

1/2 cup plain yogurt 

If you add 2-3 cups of baby spinach, then it will become a green smoothie! 

10月に娘が産まれてからというもの、以前にも増して甘い物の消費量が断然増えた私。

「授乳してる母ちゃんは腹が減る、腹が減っては戦はできぬ（戦=子育て）」

とがんがんアメリカ製のクッキーやらマフィンやらを平らげる。

授乳しているお陰で（多分）体重は妊娠前に戻ったけれども、この砂糖消費量は

如何なものか。そして夜しかちゃんとしたご飯食べてないね、私。

主婦の自宅昼ご飯ほど貧相な物はないといつかどこかで聞いた事があるのですが確かにそう。

素うどん。納豆ご飯。トースト。ご飯とみそ汁、時にみそ汁かけご飯。

哀しくて涙で画面がかすみます。

そこでもっと野菜や果物を摂る為にスムージーを毎日飲む事に。

基本的にはバナナ、イチゴ、オレンジ、ほうれん草と無糖ヨーグルト。

これに桃、キウイ、ラズベリー、ブルーベリーなんかがあった時には投入。

ほうれん草をかなりがっつり入れるので見掛けは緑色のどろどろした液体ですが、味はおいしい。うん。

肌やお腹の調子も向上した気がするし、フルーツを切ってミキサーに入れるだけ、超簡単、短時間でできる美味しい幸せ、お勧めです。
