5 Minutes Washi tape light switch cover


When I went back to japan last year, Washi tape was everywhere.
You could find them in all sizes and every pattern imaginable, it was so much fun.
Now I see them in Target ( around $2.99 each) and Michaels, I'm sure other arts & crafts kind of stores will have them.  And I know some Etsy stores sell them, too.
They are so easy to apply and they peel off completely clean.  fantastic!

Ok,  here is our light switch cover for the Playroom.

All you need to do is take off the cover from the wall and apply the tape the way you like.
You can cover the whole surface like I did, or leave some space.  Or you can tape vertically, diagonally,  the possibility is endless.

I'm pretty happy with the way it came out.  I will keep posting the picture of the covers from the other rooms, too!

簡単過ぎて記事にする程の事もないんですが…
マスキングテープを使った電気スイッチカバーのリメイク。
前回日本に帰国した時にとにかく目についたマステ。もう柄もサイズも種類が豊富で
散々悩んで買ったのですが、もっと買えば良かったーと今更後悔。
こんなに使い勝手が良いとは！
話が脱線しましたが、コホん
子供部屋に改装中の部屋の電気スイッチカバーにマステ柄のテープを貼ったのみで完成。
作業時間５分で無機質だったカバーが一気に明るくなりました。
子供部屋なのでこれくらいカラフルでも気にならない、うん。

今はベッドルームの雰囲気に合うテープを探し中。
こちらでも最近は「和紙テープ」という名で売られているマスキングテープですが
日本に比べるとまだまだ柄も少ないし値段も少し高め。

こういう小さなリメイク一つでも気持ちはリフレッシュ。部屋の雰囲気も変わる気がします。

39 Weeks 妊婦39週目

I am at week 39 and a day pregnant.  I had semi-regular contraction on Thursday night and that made me think "this is it! He's finally gonna be here!"  And my birthday happened to be Friday, so I was so sure I was going to have this baby on my birthday. (and 5/9 is also my dad's birthday)  But what do you know?  the contractions went and never came back... thus I am still pregnant.  It has been stressful and frustrating past couple of days.

I know all we can do is wait, which I am never good at! I mean, who is?

If he decides to be born tomorrow, he'll have same birthday as his uncle ( my husband's younger brother)!

Anyway, good news!  We have picked the name for the baby #2!  We will tell everyone once he gets here, but it starts with "K".  I made him a paper mache letter for his room.  My husband and I both love the name, I hope he will, too!

妊婦39週目に突入しました。

今週水曜に所謂”おしるし”があり、その時点で

「よっしゃ来い、来れ、いつでも来い、コラ」

と若干アントニオ猪木じみた心構えだけは万端だった私。

更に木曜夜には10分おきの弱い陣痛まで来たもんだから、いよいよ！とテンションは最高潮。

たまたま次の日金曜は私の父と私自身の誕生日。これは奇跡の親子三代同じ誕生日！？

ところがどっこい、その陣痛も鳴りをひそめ、気付けばもう日曜日。

まぁ出産てこんなもんなんでしょうが、一旦心の準備が整ってしまうと、逸る気持ちを抑えるのは至難の技。パニックとストレスの狭間を生きる毎日です。

そんなこんなですが、名前がようやく決定しました。

と言っても最初から候補に挙っていたのは2つのみ。なのでそこまで悩んだ訳でもないのですが。↑がイニシャルです。今回も結局日本名。

日本の名前は漢字に意味を持たせられるというのは素敵だなと改めて思う。

本人も気に入ってくれるといいな。

さーて息子君よ、母はもう完全なる臨戦態勢、思わせぶりな君は一体いつこの世界に華々しいデビューを飾るのやら？

Clothes pin craft 洗濯ピンでクラフト

Today was weekly mother and kids meet up at the local Japanese church.  They have various programs for every week and and today was "mom and me craft day" making clothes pin dolls.

I really enjoy going to this meet ups so I can get to know other Japanese moms and Amane can play with their kids.  

It was supposed to be mom and kids activity, but Amane was a bit too young to use paintbrush, I did all the fun stuff.  These are so sweet and I think I will display them somewhere in the house!

本日は地元日本人教会でのママと子供の会でした。

ここでは毎週様々なプログラムが用意されていて、私にとっては日本人のお母さんとの情報交換かつ息抜きの場だし、雨音にとっては年齢の近い子達と遊べる良い機会となっています。ありがたいね。

さて今日はかつてアメリカで使われていたという洗濯ピンを使っての人形作り。

人形の足部分を使って洗濯物をはさんでたらしいけど、こんなに毛羽立ってたら洗濯物にトゲトゲが…と余計な心配をしながら彩色。

我ながらなかなか可愛らしい出来上がり♥　どこかに飾ってあげよう。

White Wall in living room 白い壁

We have been in our new house for almost 3 months, but the work is still in progress.  I have a long list of furniture I'd like to upgrade, but they don't come cheap, so that has to wait a while.  Oh well. 

We have quite a space in the living room wall and still working on them, but we're quite happy with the "white wall" we created.  

I might add few more open frames, but I am pretty pleased with how it turned out!

1月に引越してから早いものでもうすぐ3ヶ月が過ぎようとしています。

不自由なく毎日を過ごせるようにはなったものの、まだまだ未完成な部屋ばかり。

特にリビングは大物家具を買い足さないといけない状況にあって、でも家具ってのはお高い買い物。ゆるりとしか揃っていかないのであります。くぅ〜宝くじでも当たんないかな。

まぁそんな事言ってても始まらないので、まずはできる事から。

ってな訳で玄関からリビングに入った所の壁を『白い壁』と命名。白物のみを飾る事に。

オープンフレーム、あと数個足してもいいかなと思っていますが、なかなかの出来。

白枠写真立てと中のポストカードはIKEA。こういうベーシック系は必ずあるので便利。

残りの壁は本棚（探し中）とネコが登れる棚（のような物、これも探し中）になる予定。

暖炉の上に飾る鏡も欲しいしな〜

欲しい物は尽きず。

We have moved! 家買いました

It has been a while since I published a post here.  There have been many changes in our lives, we bought our first house and we are pregnant with baby (boy) #2!  It has been an emotional roller coaster for sure.  

But thanks to the support from my family and friends, I am feeling much better and decided to start this blog once again while I have some time before the baby is born!  

New baby nursery has a long way to go before it's done,  but Amane's room is almost done.  I decided to put both kids' initial on their room door.  Here is A for Amane. 

Personally, I love Hobby Lobby for their selection of scrapbooking papers.

I need to start working on baby #2's initial, too.  Soon!! 

大変ご無沙汰致しております。

昨年9月に第２子の妊娠が発覚、今年1月の引越とわらわら忙しい日々を過ごしていました。

今回の妊娠は情緒不安定っぷりが半端なく、一番身近な旦那ちゃんはえらい被害を被ってらっしゃるはず、言葉にはなかなか出せないけど（出せよ）感謝してます。

さてさて、念願のマイホームに引越した我ら、少しずつですが形になってきたような気がします。

メインのリビングルームが遅々として進まないのが玉に傷ですが（大型家具って高いのよね…）雨音部屋はドアに付けるイニシャルも(↑）作ってほぼ完成。

新生児部屋は全く手つかずの状態で、あと１ヶ月半とかで産まれちゃうのに大丈夫かって気もしますが、まぁ何とかなるでしょう。２人目の扱いってこんなもんなのかなーはは

2番手が産まれるまでの間、またしばらくこのブログにお付き合い頂けたらと思います。

DIY Nursery /手作り子供部屋

I am still working on Amane's  nursery, but I'd like to introduce some of the things I made before she was born. There are still many projects on my list, but there's just not enough time. I need to organize my day better; that's something I need to work on immediately! 

Anyway, I wanted to have my daughter's name on the wall and Anthropologie had these really pretty fabric letters↓.  But they were over $10 apiece (can't remember the exact price) , and $50 - $60 for her name on the wall seemed a bit much.

So I decided to create the letters myself! Instead of covering them with fabric, I decided to use scrapbooking papers, an easier and cheaper solution. 

I bought the paper mache letters from Joanne for $2.99 each and covered them with papers that had various designs.  Also, I used different patterns for the face and the sides of each letter.  It was fun to mix and match patterns and colors and I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. 

雑誌か何かで見た、子供の名前を壁にディスプレイするアイディア。

大好きなお店アンソロポロジーに布製のが売っていたのですが（写真１番上）、

1つ$10以上、5文字で￥5〜6,000はなんぼ何でも高いっしょ（気持ちが高ぶると北海道弁全開となる私です）

それならばと、誕生前から名前も決めていたし、時間のある妊娠中に自分で作成する事に。

当初は布と綿で段ボール製のアルファベット（市販）をカバーしようと思っていたのですがどうも面倒くさそう。グルーガンがいるみたいだし、布って結構高いし。

という訳で急遽紙に変更。これなら切って折って貼るだけだし簡単。

色柄の組み合わせを考えながら作るのはとても楽しくて、あっと言う間に完成。

出来栄えも満足満足。

まだまだしたい事は山積みの子供部屋、これにて完成！と言える日はいつ来るやら。

DIY Tshirt Bracelet /Tシャツブレスレット

I am close to being an accessory hoarder; bracelets, necklaces, earrings...I just love them!
But now since I'm usually holding my baby girl when we are out and about, I stopped wearing bracelets because I didn't want the metal clasps to scrape or hurt her.
So I decided to make my own bracelets from a T-shirt! I got the ideal from this headband Tutorial, just made it shorter.

It looks complicated at first, but once you get the hang of it, it is pretty easy.

Here is the finished product.

No more worries about hurting the little one's face!


アクセサリーが大好きです。なんせ。
帰省する度に母に「あんたならまぁ〜そんなにじゃらじゃら付けて邪魔じゃないのかい」とコメントされる次第です。

しかしながら最近はベビを抱っこする機会が増えると同時にブレスレットをする事がめっきり減りました。金具で顔やらでこやらを傷つけるのではと冷や冷やするもんで。
そうなると何だか手首が物哀しい。
それなら金具のないブレスレットすりゃーいいじゃんって事で古いTシャツをじょきじょき切って作ってみました。
（参考にしたTシャツヘアバンドの作り方。）

紐状にしたTシャツを5つ編みにしていくんですが、最初は画像を見ても頭の中が？？？だらけ。でも1度コツをつかんでしまえば大丈夫。
伸縮自在で肌触りもサイコー、赤子フレンドリーなブレスレット完成♪

これから薄着の季節に向けて違うパターンも作ってみよう。

DIY Wall Art

We moved to a new apartment last September, but we're still working on decorating the rooms.
I know it's taken a while, but we had a baby in October and her nursery was a major project (that I haven't finished yet, oh well) etc etc.
Anyway, my beloved husband suggested putting up different kinds of photos on the wall above the sofa (great idea, honey!).  We decided to mix personal photos and art.

I had wooden frames from Goodwill and I tried using them a variety of ways, but it never looked quite right.
So I decided to create my own art! It's super easy and affordable.
Here is what you need:
Photo frames
Dollar store dictionary (or any cheap book that you can take pages out of)
Paper for mounting (optional)

All you need is to find images online, print them onto the dictionary page, mount them with your favorite paper as a background and, voila! You are an artist!

Our printer was acting up and it didn't print the silhouettes in the same shade, but I think it still looks pretty good! But I can always try to print them again... after all, I still have over 200 pages in the dollar store dictionary!


リビングのソファ後ろ一面を色々な写真立てで埋めるという企画を実行中。

かなり前に購入した木枠をそのまま掛けてたのですが、なーんか物足りない。
やっぱ枠は中に何か飾って何ぼっしょ。と突如ヤンキー風を吹かせて壁掛け作り開始。

まずは辞書を＄1ストアにて入手、後はウェブで好みのシルエットを画像検索して選択、
辞書のページに印刷して、これまた好きな紙で縁取りをして（しなくても可）額に張れば完成☆
通常の写真立てならば裏から貼る手間は省けますな。
簡単！季節やイベント、アイディアや組み合わせを考えるのも楽しい。

しかしながら未だ写真立ては足らず。むむ。現在卵形の額を捜索中。
完成は何時の日になるのやら、フレーム探しの旅はまだまだ続く。
