I'm back! ただいま、ご無沙汰しました

Wow, I can't believe my last post wan in September!  What have I been doing?

Anyway, time does fly when you're living with 2 kids.  Even though sometimes it feels like an eternity when you've got to stay home for a whole week because they're sick or something like that.  That's no fun for anybody for sure.

I went to see a friend of mine yesterday and she's on of those creative ones.  I get so inspired every time I see her and she makes me feel I have to do something.  But at the same time, to be super honest, I feel a bit jealous of her talent.  Right now, we're working on converting dining room to playroom, so that'll be my first project.  Make it cute and practical!  I always have so many things I want to, then somehow I end up not doing them.  I need to keep encouraging myself to take a first step to start working on those millions of projects, go me!!

昨日は久々に会う友人宅へ。

彼女は本当にクリエィティブで、いつも何か進行中の計画に溢れてる。

会う度によーし私も何かしなくちゃ！という気にさせられるんだけど、その高揚した気持ちとモチベーションを保つのは私にとってなかなか難しい課題。

子供が２人居ると〜とは言いつつも、寝ちゃった後に使える時間は数時間あるし、

そこを有効活用すればいいだけの事なんだよな。

考える前にまず行動。

これをモットーに今年は頑張ります。

今更今年の目標も何もないけど、何もないよりは、ね。

とまずは前向きに。うん。

さて、現在進行中の我が家のプロジェクトと言えば。

使っていなかったダイニングルームを子供達の遊び部屋に改装中。

まずはここからだな。

機能的かつ可愛い部屋を作るぞ。

そしていい加減海の部屋も何とかしないとね…。

課題は山積みだ。

けっぱれ、（北海道弁で”頑張れ”の意。）自分！　っしゃー！やるぞ。

Volunteer movie translation! 映画『うまれる ずっと、いっしょ。』翻訳ボランティア参加しました

I have had quite a few different kinds of jobs before and after moving to the US.  But I enjoyed the work that involved the translation the most.  I always loved reading and writing ever since I was a little girl, I guess I like plating with words, pretty nerdy, I know. '

Anyway,  my friend shared the story on FB that they were looking for volunteer translator for the upcoming movie.  I'm not sure what the English title will be, but this is the sequel to the documentary "Being Born".  The story of birth, family and life.

I immediately applied to volunteer and luckily, they picked me to translate about 10 minutes of the movie.  Then to my surprise, they asked me to do the trailer, too after I submitted the translation for my part.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen those movies yet, but the trailer itself is enough to make me cry, it'll be difficult to watch the whole movie without a box of tissue, I'm sure.
Let's hope it'll make to the US!





もう1ヶ月程前ですが、元同僚がフェイスブックにて『映画　うまれる、ずっと、いっしょ。』
制作スタッフが、翻訳ボランティアを募集してるとの記事を投稿しているのを発見。

これ迄翻訳の仕事は幾つかしてきましたが、映像の翻訳は未経験、でもこれは楽しそう、やってみたいとの好奇心が勝って、早速応募する事に。

短い翻訳のテストを含むフォームを送信後、数日で是非お願いしたいとの返答を頂きました。早速取りかかったものの、話し言葉を訳すのは簡単そうで意外に難しい。
何度も映像を繰り返し見ては、直訳でなく、その場の雰囲気、感情が伝わるように訳すように心掛ける。

やっと納得の行く訳が完成し、提出した数日後、また連絡を頂き、今度は予告編を訳して欲しいとの依頼を頂きました。
頑張った甲斐があった、何て光栄な、勿論喜んで引き受けました。

久しぶりに〆切までに何かをこなす事で、やり遂げたーっていう達成感を味わえて何とも新鮮な経験でした。

家事育児も労働だけれど、結果が目には見えないし、ここで終わりってのが無い中で、あぁ、私はこういう事に飢えていたんだなと改めて気付かされる。

って事で早速就職活動再開←単純なのは長所です。
日本帰省からアメリカに戻って来たら、社会復帰してやろうと目論見中。
待ってろよ、アメリカ社会。（立ち向かう相手がでかすぎですか）

話はそれましたが。
この映画、未公開なので全編は見てませんが、予告編だけでもう涙、涙。
命を真剣に、真っ正面から見据えて考える映画だと思う。
どうかアメリカでも上映されますように！

Yellowriver Game Ranch 週末動物ふれあいの旅

We have been planning to yale Amane to Yellowriver game ranch for a while because she loves animals so much.  Last weekend was a 3 day weekend , so we decided to go.

Their slogan is "Like a Zoo, only better".  Ok, sounds promising enough for me!  They have many different kind of animals, mostly farm animals, some of them you can pet and feed.  You can buy all different of stuff you can feed to them at the entrance. We bought dry corns and saltine crackers, because the lady at the casher told us they were the hit on that day.   The smell was pretty intense and animals are not really well groomed ( they are close to their natural state, I suppose ) but I enjoyed feeding goats, donkeys and my absolute favorite, Alpacas!  Oh, they are so cute even they make your hand soaking wet with dirt and spit...I still love them. 

Amane seemed to enjoy the encounters with animals, too.  She wanted to feed everyone.  

It was hot and smelly, but I think it was definitely worth it!  I want to go back again already, well, maybe when it's a little cooler.

先週末は3連休。

まだまだ暑いアトランタ、この時期の野外活動は極力避けてる北国育ちの私ですが、子供の為だ、と意を決し、ふれあい動物園　Yellowriver game ranchへ。

入口で入場料と動物の餌（店員さんイチオシの乾燥とうもろこしとクラッカー）を購入。

出会える動物は家畜系が中心で羊、山羊、豚、うさぎ、ろば、鹿などのどか系の子達。

と思ったら突如コヨーテとかも登場するので気が抜けない。

雨音も勇敢に次から次へと登場する動物にせっせと餌をあげておりました。

動物は大好きらしく全く物怖じもせず、自ら超至近距離に攻め入っていく女児。

中でも何故か山羊がお気に召したらしく、今でも「山羊ばいばいーい」と毎日口癖のように言っています。何でだ…

私が楽しみにしてたアルパカは、ものすごく臭くて、餌を手から食べると何故か手が泥だらけになるという謎の生命体でした。

そして3頭居るうちの1頭が半端ない受け口で、餌をたべずらそうにしてたのが忘れられません。でも可愛いな、アルパカ。

何はともあれ、暑くて臭くて動物達は何か薄汚れてたけど（自然に近い形にしてんのか）雨音は大興奮で大喜びだったし、旦那は小さい頃と1㍉も変わっていないこの場所でタイムスリップしたような気になれたし、私もごわごわのアルパカなでなでできたし、有意義な夏の１日でしたとさ。

Kids Fashionista /キッズコーデ

I don't even remember what I've been doing, but it has been kind of  hectic for me recently.  I guess that is the life with 2 kids! oh well. 

Amane still enjoys the day school ( I think, I hope ) even she catches cold every other week and has to skip going there.  I guess they just give and take germs to each other all the time.  

Anyway, here is the picture of her on the way from the school.  She recently started to do this face when I ask her to "show me your good face! " I love being able to communicate with her, it's so much fun!  And I love this girl with giant smile on her face :)

ご無沙汰しております。

何をしてたのかすら思い出せない位何だかばたついておりました。

小さい方が2人居る生活ってこんなもんか。

雨音は相変わらず教会の朝クラスに通ってますが、なんせ隔週風邪をもらって帰って来る。

きっとうつしてうつされての繰り返しなんだろうな。恐るべし子供風邪菌。

さて、今日の写真は最近覚えた

せっかくの二重（私が一重なもんでついつい二重を大事にせーよと力んでしまう）も台無しの笑顔。と貫禄の腰回り。

でも、この笑顔があるから頑張れるってのが母ちゃんなんだな。

Me & Him Time 海晴と私

Amane has been staying with my in-law's for past few days, so I got to spend sometime alone with Kaisei.  We have two kids now, so it's impossible to give both of them the same amount of attention we used to give to Amane, but sometimes I feel bad for this little guy.  I enjoyed cuddling and making him laugh.  It's absolutely true the time flies with the second child, I can't believe he is almost 3 months already.  I should really cherish time with him before he gets older and don't wanna hang out with me anymore!

百面相

ここ数日雨音が義両親の実家へ泊まりに行っていたので、海晴と2人だけで過ごす時間がしばしありました。

普段はじっくり抱っこしてしげしげ顔を見てる暇もないので、改めて観察。

気付かない内に大きくなったな、もう明日で3ヶ月だもんね。

こうして抱っこされてるのも束の間の事なんだろうから、たまにはこうして2人でゆっくりってのもいいもんだ。

早く大きくなって一緒に遊びたい様な、でもこのちっちゃさは一瞬だからずっとこのままでいて欲しい様な。

抱っこされて安心しきった寝顔を見ながらそんな事を思うのでした。

Baby and a cat 昆虫女子現る

Amane loves all the animals, but right now, she's super into insects.  We have a children's encyclopedia and she only wants see the insect page.  I hope she won't start collecting bugs and keep them as pets when she's a little older... yikes!

And my in-laws told me that when they saw a snake in their backyard,  Amane really wanted to chase it and was pretty upset that grandpa couldn't catch it.  We've got a wild girl for sure!

She also likes "normal" animals, too, but our 2 cats are not so fond of her, probably because she tries to lay on them all the time.  Her current best friend is my brother-in-law's Main coon.  He is the nicest cat you'll ever meet, I wish he was our cat, even though I absolutely love mine.  Here is a picture of Amane and him taken by my brother-in-law's girlfriend.  This is so freaking sweet and I love it!!

最近虫にはまり中の我が娘。

子供図鑑を引っ張りだして来ては

「むし　みたい！むし　みたい！」

を繰り返し、にやにやしながら虫の絵を眺めて一つずつ名前を確認。

その内昆虫採集とかしだすんだろうか、蝉の抜け殻とか集めんだろうか、心中穏やかでははいられない私。だって気持ち悪い。

けど、でも興味を持つ事は良い事だ。女の子が昆虫博士ってのも悪くない。

更に蛇とかワニの爬虫類も大好き。

先日義父母の庭で蛇を発見、走って追っかけて捕まえようとしたそうな。末恐ろしい…

ちなみにもっと一般的な犬猫の類も好きなんですが、我が家の猫2匹は極力雨音との接触は避けてる様子。何故なら枕代わりにされるから。

いつか仲良くなれるといいね。

そんな雨音を優しく受け入れてくれる広大な心の持ち主、義弟の猫。彼のガールフレンドが心が溶けそうな素敵な写真を撮ってくれました、ここ最近１番のお気に入りです。

Beat the skin trouble! アメリカ肌トラブルにはこれ!

Fortunately, I never had serious skin problem, but from time to time, I have breakouts on my face.  Most recent one was right after I had Kaisei, mainly because of all those hormone going crazy and minimum sleeping hours. 

But also because I was eating so much chocolate and cheesecakes.  I swear breast feeding makes you starving all the time! 

Anyway, when this happens, I use apricot scrub and Witch Hazel.  

I wash my face with the scrub, then wash again with the usual facial soap and wipe my face with Witch Hazel using cotton rounds.  The next day, my skin feels soft and minor acne-like spots are gone!  They are definitely my to-go facial treatments.  Some people might not enjoy the smell of Witch Hazel, but I don;t mind it at all.  It just smells like vinegar.  

And I'm using Kroger brand apricot scrub and it does its job just fine. I've tried other ones like St, Ives and Burt's Bees, but I really like the one I use now.  Especially when you can get them less thank half the price of Burt's Bees! 

虫さされにも効いちゃう万能選

幸いな事にあんま肌トラブルは無い方ですが、時には吹き出物が出ちゃったりもします、女子なんで。

特に産後はホルモンががっちゃがちゃになるわ睡眠不足だわで、肌も悲鳴を上げます。

甘い物も大量喰いしてたしなー何せ母乳育児はお腹が空く。

そういう時のわらわの必需品は、フェイススクラブとウィッチヘーゼル！（写真上）

アメリカのスクラブはアプリコットの種の粒がかなり大きくて、毛穴に対してかなり攻めの姿勢、本気でこすると痛い目に。洗った後はさっぱりだけど。

その後いつもの洗顔料で洗い、仕上げにウィッチヘーゼルで拭き取り。

これで翌日はかなりつるつる、スッキリします。ちょっとした吹き出物も消滅。

スクラブは色々試しましたが、どこのも大差はナシ。

今はスーパーのオリジナルブランドのを使ってますが、Burt's Beesとかよりも逆に良い気がする、値段も半額以下だし。

ウィッチヘーゼルはちょっと酢っぽい独特の匂いがあるので苦手な人はあれかもですが、私は全く気にならず、おすすめです。
