A stroll in the sun / 産後ダイエットの心得

It was such a lovely day last Friday that I decided to take Amane out for a walk. Luckily, there are many great parks around where we live.  We took a nice, leisurely walk on a trail in the woods for about 45 minutes.

I have exercised regularly since Amane was born, but not as much as I would like to.  So I feel like I should take every opportunity to go outside and at least take a walk.

Amane usually sleeps in the stroller, so I can't tell yet if she likes to be outdoors or not. But I can't wait to do all kinds of outdoor fun things with her in the future!

橋からの眺め、緑が濃くなるのが待ち遠しい

出産後およそ3ヶ月で体重は妊娠前に戻ったのですが、やはり体型の変化は否めない。

顕著なのは腰〜お尻のあたり。

確かに人間一人通ったんだから仕方ないっちゃ仕方ないんだけど。

と諦めちゃ女が廃るって事で、週2のズンバを初め、出来る範囲での運動を心がけています。本当はジョギングもしたいけど、なんせ時間が足りない。

いや、むしろ時間管理の問題かしら。

それはさておき、先週金曜は気持ちのよい晴天だったので、雨音を連れて散歩へ。

幸いこの辺りには公園が沢山あって、小1時間程度の散歩にはぴったり。

親子で自転車やジョギング、犬を連れて散歩してる人もちらほら。

すやすや眠る雨音の乗ったベビーカーを押しながら、彼女がもう少し大きくなったら一緒にできる事を考えながらわくわくしたのでした。

Books from NY 本を読む事

One of the most difficult things about living in the States for me is the very limited access to Japanese books.

If I was in LA or NY, I could go to Japanese bookstores and even second hand bookstores.  But I can only dream about them here in ATL. 

But a very sweet co-worker of my husband got me some books when she visited NY last week.  I am so excited and can't wait to read them!

I have always loved reading and my mom even made me a "library bag" to take with me when I started elementary school so I could carry extra books. I carried it everyday and I became really good friends with an old lady who worked at my school library.  In elementary school, I wore pink-framed glasses and I always had a few books with me wherever I went. How cute is that?

アメリカに住む上で1番不便なのは、日本語の本が簡単に手に入らない事。

私は今でこそ初めて会った人にもちゃんと挨拶できる立派な大人に成長したものの（当たり前）中身はピンクの眼鏡をかけていた７歳の頃から足繁く図書館に通う根暗な少女のまま。

つまり、常に本に囲まれて生活したい訳なんです。

せっかく英語も話せるんだし英語の本読めばいいじゃん。

と思われるのは当然の事。

でも面倒くさい。単語調べながら読むとかいう忍耐力のない私。

でもそろそろ読む本無くなって来たな、そわそわ。してる私の元に救世主現る。

その方は旦那ちゃんの隣の席で働く日本通の素敵女子。彼女が先週ニューヨークに行った際にわざわざ本を買ってきてくれたのです、何て良い人。惚れそうです。

ちびがちびなので、読める時間は限られるけれども楽しみ。

それにしても相変わらず暗いな、本の選択が。

Star Obsession 星柄に寄せる思い

I am obsessed with star prints right now! I love anything and everything with stars on it! Earrings, shirts, pants...if they have stars on them, I want them!

I have had other design obsessions like butterflies, hearts (that was short-lived), skulls,

and stripes (I still love this last one).  But right now, stars are my favorite.

I was looking at my recent purchases of baby clothes and it made me realized how obsessed I am.

But I only like stars that I think look rock-n-roll, not those cutesy, lovey kind of stars with faces or smiles on them.  Yuck!

星柄が好きです。しましまに次ぐ勢いで好きです。

私は一つの物を好きになるととことん突き詰めるタイプなので、否が応にもその時々の嗜好品を買い溜める羽目に陥ります。そしてある日突然冷める。

過去には蝶々モチーフのアクセサリーを大量に集めていたし、スカルも長い事愛好して（今も）おりました。

しかしながらここ数年やっぱ私はロック調がスキなんだ。って事に落ち着いてからは鳴りを潜めていた収集癖が星柄に出逢った事によって一気に解放。

とは言っても大人の星柄の服ってそんなにあるもんじゃーありゃーせんので、ピアスやシャツ程度↑の可愛いものなんですが、子供服に至ってはいっぱいある！うきゃッ

現在ほぼ5ヶ月の娘。ジーンズに至っては1歳用サイズ（1番小さいのがこのサイズだった）

なんでまだ日の目を見る日は遠いのですが、着せるのが待ち遠しい★

今は何故かギンガムチェックがものすごく気になるのですが、どこにも売ってない…

I went to an Indian restaurant for lunch yesterday with a friend who is expecting a baby boy in May.  I can't wait to see her little man! And another friend of mine is expecting a baby boy in July.  So exciting! 

When we found out I was pregnant, I really wanted a boy, and I am still hoping our baby number 2 will be a little brother for Amane.  But with that being said, I will take another girl or 2 any day :)

昨日は5月に男の子を出産予定の妊婦ちゃんの友達とインド料理屋さんにてランチ。

そして７月にも男の子を出産する友達がいて、只今メンズブーム真っ盛りです。我が家も是非あやかりたいところ。

妊娠が発覚した当初は絶対男の子が欲しい！と思っていた私ですが、産まれてみると女子も楽しいじゃん、可愛いじゃんとすっかり心変わり。

ソフトモヒカンな彼女にめろっと来る日々です。

自分の子供〜学生時代を振り返ると、どうかあんな子には育ってくれませんようにと祈る事しかできない私ですが、こればっかりは神のみぞ知る。

けどやっぱ男の子も育ててみたいし、出来る事ならあと数人子供は欲しい。

だって私と旦那ちゃんの組み合わせからどんな子が誕生するのかなんて予想できないし、毎回違う結果が出るなんて、好奇心くすぐられまくりです。まさに神秘！

Spring Cleaning! 春の大掃除

I am not familiar with the concept of "spring cleaning,"(I am from a country where the big yearly cleaning comes at the end of the year) but I LOVE cleaning anyways, so I am working on getting rid of old things. I am a cold-blooded/ heartless human being when it comes to getting rid of stuff. It's not hard for me at all to toss old things, especially when you can donate unwanted items instead of throwing them away! It's a guilt-free solution for clutter in the house.

I frequent my local Goodwill, both to donate and to shop.  I always find something when I go there.

Here is one of my Goodwill finds from the other day.

Hawaii T-shirt for my baby girl! My husband thought it was a bit strange since we haven't been to Hawaii, but I know it'll look cute on her.

ちびっこフラガールが可愛い♡

ここアメリカでは何故か春に大掃除をする風習があり（生粋のアメリカンな旦那ちゃんも理由は知らず）

年から年中掃除している私も便乗してディープに整理整頓中。

私は片付けに関しては血も涙もない冷血漢。

センチメンタルバリュー？何ですかそれ？

とじゃんじゃん切り捨てます。

実際これまで捨てて困った物はなかったし、「いつか使うかも」って物は9割使わない。

さて、ここアメリカでは不要品を寄付できるお店が沢山あって、古着屋さんにて買ってもらえなかった洋服や日用品は必ず持って行く事にしています、捨てるよりも誰かに使ってもらえれば嬉しいし、罪悪感（私は無いけど）も感じずに済む。

最近は寄付しに行く度子供服を買って来てしまう…でも全品$3位なんで、ま、いっか。

先日見つけたのは↑のハワイTシャツ！可愛い♡

旦那ちゃんは「えっ…」と絶句してましたが。派手柄のレギンスに合わせたら絶対可愛いに違いない。うん。

あー薄着の出来る夏が待ち遠しいな。

Fashion Baby /ベビコーデ13/03/20

The weather was almost summer-like this past weekend, but now we're back to cold mornings and nights.  I had already put away winter clothes, but I had to get out a cardigan for her this morning.

Today, Amane and I went to a weekly get-together for Japanese mothers and kids at a local Japanese church. We've been going for about two months now and it's really fun.  Each week we do different activities, like cooking, crafts, exercising, etc.  I have made some new friends and hopefully Amane will, too, when she's old enough to play with the other kids.

She is wearing:
Headband (made by me from old T-shirt)
Cardigan (Kid to Kid)
Umbrella & polka dot onesie (Old Navy)
Jeggings (Levi's)

Yes, I am aware of her eating the cardigan.  Seems she is becoming a fabric-chewer just like her uncle was when he was a baby (according to my mother-in-law).

今日は我が家から車で20分程のノークロスという町にある日本人教会で毎週水曜に行われている親子の会に参加。
工作、体操、お料理など毎週違ったアクティビティも楽しいし、アメリカに住む日本人
同士の情報交換の場としても重宝させてもらっています。

先々週あたり、この会に参加してるママに
「雨音ちゃんってハーフみたいだよね〜」
と言われ
「ごめん…本当にハーフなんだ…」と
何故か謝罪するわっち。
確かに他のハーフちゃんに比べるとダントツ和顔。アジア全開。

それでも笑うと目がなくなる娘の笑顔に日々ほっこりさせて頂いてる我ら夫婦。
平和で幸せな日常だね。

DIY Nursery /手作り子供部屋

I am still working on Amane's  nursery, but I'd like to introduce some of the things I made before she was born. There are still many projects on my list, but there's just not enough time. I need to organize my day better; that's something I need to work on immediately! 

Anyway, I wanted to have my daughter's name on the wall and Anthropologie had these really pretty fabric letters↓.  But they were over $10 apiece (can't remember the exact price) , and $50 - $60 for her name on the wall seemed a bit much.

So I decided to create the letters myself! Instead of covering them with fabric, I decided to use scrapbooking papers, an easier and cheaper solution. 

I bought the paper mache letters from Joanne for $2.99 each and covered them with papers that had various designs.  Also, I used different patterns for the face and the sides of each letter.  It was fun to mix and match patterns and colors and I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. 

雑誌か何かで見た、子供の名前を壁にディスプレイするアイディア。

大好きなお店アンソロポロジーに布製のが売っていたのですが（写真１番上）、

1つ$10以上、5文字で￥5〜6,000はなんぼ何でも高いっしょ（気持ちが高ぶると北海道弁全開となる私です）

それならばと、誕生前から名前も決めていたし、時間のある妊娠中に自分で作成する事に。

当初は布と綿で段ボール製のアルファベット（市販）をカバーしようと思っていたのですがどうも面倒くさそう。グルーガンがいるみたいだし、布って結構高いし。

という訳で急遽紙に変更。これなら切って折って貼るだけだし簡単。

色柄の組み合わせを考えながら作るのはとても楽しくて、あっと言う間に完成。

出来栄えも満足満足。

まだまだしたい事は山積みの子供部屋、これにて完成！と言える日はいつ来るやら。

We're having such a beautiful day here in Atlanta today. I wish summer here was mild like this instead of over 100 degrees and humid!

Grandmama took us shopping yesterday and got Amane some pretty stuff. And we're talking about "girls' vacation to Florida," and that just sounds too good to miss.  I can't wait to relax (if that is possible with a baby) and read a good book at the beach!

Anyway, here are some of the goodies grandmama got for her lovely granddaughter.

昨日は義理の母と雨音と3人でお買い物へ。

息子が3人の彼女にとっては念願の女子孫なので、常にテンションマックスなグランママ。

どこのお店に行っても「まぁー何て可愛いの♡」を連発。

店毎買い占めそうな勢いをせき止めるのが私の重要任務。

今回私が探していたのは赤ちゃんサングラス。

最近めっきり暖かくなって来たここアトランタ、太陽の日差しも強まってきたので

（ハーフなのに）小ちゃな目を守る必需品。

ネットで見つけて絶対これ！と思っていたのが運良くお店にもありました。

やっぱ可愛い〜♡　自己満足とは分かっていても可愛いものは可愛い。

色違いでブルー系グラデーションのもお買い上げ（2組で＄6！）

ヒッピーテイスト（大好き）のロンパース、まだちょっと大きいけど夏には丁度よくなっているかな。

本日の雨音さん
超ご機嫌、おみ足が超高速移動でぶれるぶれる。

ヘアバンドはTシャツを細く切って蝶々結びに。
レッグウォーマーは子供用ハイソックスをリメイク。
新生児サイズのタイツがどうしても見つからない、でもスカートや短パンは履かせたい。
ならばと可愛い柄のソックスをリメイクする事に。
とっても簡単に出来るかつ、シンプル服好きが高じて地味になってしまうのに歯止めをかけてくれる優秀アイテムです。

しっかしこうして見ると見事なMっぱげ。

Baby Shower!

My friend Chika and I hosted a baby shower for a mutual friend whose baby is due in May.  We held the party at Tuk Tuk Thai Food Loft in Atlanta.

Chika and I  both like crafty stuff, so we made all the decorations and party favors ourselves.

The mom-to-be is expecting a boy, but we wanted to use colors other than the standard blue. So we went with yellow and gray, and fortunately she loved it!

You only need these pieces, so discard the rest.

It was a fun project and I'd do it again anytime! 

週末、5月に初出産予定の友人の為のベビーシャワーを企画、開催しました。

ベビーシャワーとは、出産を迎える友人や家族の為に皆が集まって、ご飯を食べたりプレゼントをあげるアメリカのパーティの事。

ちなみにプレゼントは事前に出産を控えたカップルがデパートやベビザラス等に行って

欲しい物をウィッシュリストに登録、あげる側はそのリストから選んで買うという非常に合理的なシステム。

そしてアメリカは返品が一般的でまぁ簡単。プレゼントは基本的にレシートと一緒に渡すので気に入らなければすぐ返品と言うこれまた割り切った考え方。

私は超合理派なので、これは便利。

さてさて話はそれましたが、ベビーシャワー。

アトランタ市内のタイレストランの個室を貸し切り、アットホームな雰囲気で食事とプレゼント贈呈を楽しみました。

ちなみに今回企画した私と友人のちかチャンは手作りが大好きで、おむつケーキやゲストへのお土産、席札も自分達で準備。（上記写真参照）

今こうして終えてみるとあ〜あれもすれば良かったこれもすれば良かったとまだまだ浮かぶアイディア達。

次に誰かにベビちゃんが誕生する際にはまた企画したい、楽しいイベントです。

元気な男の子が産まれてきますように！

喰う寝る遊ぶ

とはまさ我が娘を象徴する言葉

生後1ヶ月までは生真面目に3時間毎に起こして授乳していたのですがどうも眠そう。

もしや起こさなかったらこのまま寝るんじゃないの。

そこで1ヶ月検診の際小児科の先生におそるおそる

「本人眠そうなんすけど、自然に起きるまで寝かせておくなんて事って出来たりしますかね、これ、この時期の新生児って」

と質問すると

「いいよ、別に。体重順調に増えてっし」

とあっさり快諾。

その日から6時間、9時間と睡眠時間は増えてゆき、4ヶ月となった今、10−12時間は

がっつり眠る雨音さん。

寝る子は育つの言葉通り桜色のほっぺをした健康な子に成長中です。

ちなみに自慢のほっぺはクルミを溜め込んだエゾリスなみの豊満さ（この単語チョイス間違ってますかね）

そして最近は意識的におもちゃや人に手を伸ばしているような素振りも。

脳が信号を発信→物を掴む→口に運ぶ

という連携が出来上がりつつあるのかもしれません。

寝返りもつい先日できるようになり、初めは物珍しいのか何度もころんころんしてたのに、ここ数日はあんま乗り気じゃないようで仰向けのまま、でもにこにことご機嫌な日々です。

DIY Tshirt Bracelet /Tシャツブレスレット

I am close to being an accessory hoarder; bracelets, necklaces, earrings...I just love them!
But now since I'm usually holding my baby girl when we are out and about, I stopped wearing bracelets because I didn't want the metal clasps to scrape or hurt her.
So I decided to make my own bracelets from a T-shirt! I got the ideal from this headband Tutorial, just made it shorter.

It looks complicated at first, but once you get the hang of it, it is pretty easy.

Here is the finished product.

No more worries about hurting the little one's face!


アクセサリーが大好きです。なんせ。
帰省する度に母に「あんたならまぁ〜そんなにじゃらじゃら付けて邪魔じゃないのかい」とコメントされる次第です。

しかしながら最近はベビを抱っこする機会が増えると同時にブレスレットをする事がめっきり減りました。金具で顔やらでこやらを傷つけるのではと冷や冷やするもんで。
そうなると何だか手首が物哀しい。
それなら金具のないブレスレットすりゃーいいじゃんって事で古いTシャツをじょきじょき切って作ってみました。
（参考にしたTシャツヘアバンドの作り方。）

紐状にしたTシャツを5つ編みにしていくんですが、最初は画像を見ても頭の中が？？？だらけ。でも1度コツをつかんでしまえば大丈夫。
伸縮自在で肌触りもサイコー、赤子フレンドリーなブレスレット完成♪

これから薄着の季節に向けて違うパターンも作ってみよう。

Being a Mom / 母になる事

Since my daughter was born, many people have asked me, "Are you enjoying being a mother?"

Yes, of course! She doesn't say no to me (yet), she doesn't slam the door because she's upset (yet), she doesn't think her parents are lame (hopefully), and I don't have to say no to her.  All I have to do is love her, feed her, change her and love her more. 

She really has been a great baby to us; the only problem we ever had was that she loved sleeping too much and we had such a hard time waking her up to feed her in the first month.

Some methods we were taught were to tickle her teeny tiny feet, take off her clothes and hold her to my chest, and wipe her back with a baby wipe! She did not like that one!

Thanks to her being such a laid back baby, we have also been rather relaxed and laid back parents. 

I can't wait for her to start walking, talking, doing girly stuff with me like shopping and eating frozen yogurt, but I should probably embrace this baby moment with her.

娘が産まれてから頻繁に「母親業はどう？」と聞かれるのですが、現在彼女は4ヶ月。

両親を試すとか、反抗するとか、そういうのとはまだまだ無縁なお年頃。

なので、子育てと言っても可愛がって、食べさせて、おむつを替えてまた可愛がる。

この繰り返しなので、全然大変な事なんてありゃーせん。

唯一きつかったのは、生後1日2日目は3時間おきの授乳をせねばならないのに、とにかく起きなかった事くらい。

足の裏をこちょこちょされようが、ひんやりお尻拭きで背中を拭かれようが、まず起きない。飲ませない事には仕方がないので、1時間毎にこの繰り返し。

退院する頃には要領を得たのか、半分ほど覚醒するようにはなりましたが、このまま飲まないで寝続けるんだろうか、この赤子は。とやや心配しました。

今後歩いたり、転んで泣いたり、喋るようになって自分の意見を言ったりするのが怖くもあり楽しみだけれども、この時期はもう戻らないんだからまず今を楽しみなされ。という温かな助言に従って行こうと思います。

その前に初めての子なのに、２番目の子並みの写真の少なさをまず解消するのが先決か…

DIY Wall Art

We moved to a new apartment last September, but we're still working on decorating the rooms.
I know it's taken a while, but we had a baby in October and her nursery was a major project (that I haven't finished yet, oh well) etc etc.
Anyway, my beloved husband suggested putting up different kinds of photos on the wall above the sofa (great idea, honey!).  We decided to mix personal photos and art.

I had wooden frames from Goodwill and I tried using them a variety of ways, but it never looked quite right.
So I decided to create my own art! It's super easy and affordable.
Here is what you need:
Photo frames
Dollar store dictionary (or any cheap book that you can take pages out of)
Paper for mounting (optional)

All you need is to find images online, print them onto the dictionary page, mount them with your favorite paper as a background and, voila! You are an artist!

Our printer was acting up and it didn't print the silhouettes in the same shade, but I think it still looks pretty good! But I can always try to print them again... after all, I still have over 200 pages in the dollar store dictionary!


リビングのソファ後ろ一面を色々な写真立てで埋めるという企画を実行中。

かなり前に購入した木枠をそのまま掛けてたのですが、なーんか物足りない。
やっぱ枠は中に何か飾って何ぼっしょ。と突如ヤンキー風を吹かせて壁掛け作り開始。

まずは辞書を＄1ストアにて入手、後はウェブで好みのシルエットを画像検索して選択、
辞書のページに印刷して、これまた好きな紙で縁取りをして（しなくても可）額に張れば完成☆
通常の写真立てならば裏から貼る手間は省けますな。
簡単！季節やイベント、アイディアや組み合わせを考えるのも楽しい。

しかしながら未だ写真立ては足らず。むむ。現在卵形の額を捜索中。
完成は何時の日になるのやら、フレーム探しの旅はまだまだ続く。

Smoothie Life

Ever since I had my daughter, my craving for sweets has increased and I have been addicted to Chips Ahoy. 

To lessen my guilt and eat more fruits and vegetables, I started making smoothies.

These actually taste pretty good and they make you feel healthier and your skin look better.  Plus it's much cheaper than going to smoothie places everyday!

Here is my recipe:

Pink Smoothie

5 Strawberries 

2 Oranges

1 Banana 

5 Slices of frozen peaches

1/2 cup plain yogurt 

If you add 2-3 cups of baby spinach, then it will become a green smoothie! 

10月に娘が産まれてからというもの、以前にも増して甘い物の消費量が断然増えた私。

「授乳してる母ちゃんは腹が減る、腹が減っては戦はできぬ（戦=子育て）」

とがんがんアメリカ製のクッキーやらマフィンやらを平らげる。

授乳しているお陰で（多分）体重は妊娠前に戻ったけれども、この砂糖消費量は

如何なものか。そして夜しかちゃんとしたご飯食べてないね、私。

主婦の自宅昼ご飯ほど貧相な物はないといつかどこかで聞いた事があるのですが確かにそう。

素うどん。納豆ご飯。トースト。ご飯とみそ汁、時にみそ汁かけご飯。

哀しくて涙で画面がかすみます。

そこでもっと野菜や果物を摂る為にスムージーを毎日飲む事に。

基本的にはバナナ、イチゴ、オレンジ、ほうれん草と無糖ヨーグルト。

これに桃、キウイ、ラズベリー、ブルーベリーなんかがあった時には投入。

ほうれん草をかなりがっつり入れるので見掛けは緑色のどろどろした液体ですが、味はおいしい。うん。

肌やお腹の調子も向上した気がするし、フルーツを切ってミキサーに入れるだけ、超簡単、短時間でできる美味しい幸せ、お勧めです。

Thrifty Finds

スリフトショップが大好物です。

これは日本でいう所のリサイクルショップなんだけれども

基本的に商品は寄付されている場合が多いので

実際壊れていたり、用途不明な代物も多数潜んでいたりします。

古い古い家族写真とかね。見つける度思わず買ってしまいそうになる自分と格闘する事

約2分、その後はっと我に返る。だって赤の他人の写真を飾るってねぇ。

けれどその中から自分にとっての掘り出し物を見つけた時の

達成感と高揚感、してやったり感（大袈裟）はやみつきになります。
