Instead of Flowers 宅配ディナー！

While my son was hospitalized for a few days in January, my husband's office's "Cheer Team" arranged the delivery meal from instead of flowers.  And we finally got to have them delivered yesterday.  The dinner consist of salad, side vegetable, bread rolls, main dish and dessert.  We picked the shrimp scampi, it came with mandarin salad, sauteed zucchini and squash, French bread roll and cheesecake bites.

They're all fully cooked and come with the instruction for heating up.
And they were delicious!!  I was not only happy not to cook, but also very happy with what we got.
What a great idea, right?  I think this will be great for Mother's day, even upcoming Valentine's day!

And I was so grateful for my husband's company's generous thought.  My son is healthy and happy again, I never want to go through that again, but I would definitely love to have this meal delivery service again!!

年明けに息子海が入院した際に、旦那氏の会社の『Cheer Team』（社員の冠婚葬祭、誕生日等を管理してギフトを送ったりするチームだそうな、アメリカならではって感じですな。）が、宅配ディナーを手配してくれました。
入院は幸い数日だったので、病院ではなく、後日自宅に配送してもらう事に。
そして遂に昨日届きました〜

海老のホワイトソースパスタにアジアンサラダ、ズッキーニと根菜のハーブ炒めにチーズケーキまで。
全て調理済みで後は温めるのみ。
夕飯を作らなくていいというのは主婦にとってはかなり贅沢。
温めて皿に盛るだけなんて何て楽なの〜感涙
そして肝心のお味は、めちゃウマでした。
こんな拙い表現しかできない位美味しく頂きました。

この宅配サービス会社、その名もInstead of Flowers, 直訳するとお花の代わりに。
ですが本当にナイスアイディア。
お花は確かに嬉しいけれど、お母さんにとって自宅で出来た物が出て来るってのは
ゆっくり食べれてこの上ない幸せ。

これは母の日に使える！と早速メモメモ。
人里離れた義両親宅まで届けてくれるかどうかが問題だな。

息子の入院はもう2度とごめんだけど、このサービス、またいつか使ってみたいな。
と健康になってもりもりご飯を喰らう海を眺めながら思うのでした。

Living with Green 緑と暮らす

Ever since I started watching "Fixer Upper" on HGTV, I've been obsessed with Joanna (the designer) 's design.  I LOVE (almost) everything she does.  Her style is very simple, farmhouse-like, vintage and a bit industrial.

I have been so inspired by her and have been trying to incorporate her ideas to our house.  I started to display greens on the mantle to begin with.  I'd love to have indoor small trees, but I know the cats won't leave them alone, oh, and my 9 months son, too, so that has to wait.

Those eucalyptus leaves are from Trader Joe's and they are $2.99 each.  They smell great and last for a long time, what a bargain!  I got those white flowers ( I have no idea whet they are called... shame on me. ) from there, too and they're also $2.99.  Trader Joe's is a great place to get reasonable greens and flowers.

I am also dreaming about having rustic white bedroom and I am in search for a white quilt.  I already have specific design in mind and that always makes it hard to find "the one".  But I guess that is a part of fun working on the project.  But I really need it for the spring!!



インテリアに関しては、これまでは割と柄×柄とかの派手な組み合わせが好きだったんですが、最近シンプルに方向転換しつつあります。
というのも、こちらアメリカのケーブルで現在放映中の、まぁ日本で言えば「ビフォーアフター」的な番組のデザイナーのデザインが好き過ぎる。ど真ん中。

シンプルで機能的、でもところどころにアンティーク雑貨やヴィンテージ風雑貨も取り入れつつ、そしてとにかく植物の使い方がステキなんです。
んでもって影響の受けやすさにいては右に出る者はいないこの私。えへん
早速、緑を取り入れるとこから始めてみました。

ユーカリは、オーガニック系スーパーTrader Joe's にて一束3㌦（約300円）、白の花も同じ値段で、合計1000円以下で暖炉の上がすっかり緑の空間に。
更にユーカリはすーっとした良い香りがして、リラックス効果がある、ような気がする。うん。
ミルク入れのミニ緑はキッチンに。

本当は観葉植物欲しいけど、猫と9ヶ月男児が放っておかないだろーなと最初から諦めております。

この勢いに乗って、寝室ももっと白を使った空間に！を夢見ていますが
いかんせん、思い描いているキルトもしくは布団カバーが見つからない。
おーっこれこれ！と思ったら何万円もしたりするし…ちッ
めげずに探し続けます。

フレッシュな気持ちで春を迎える為にも、それまでに出会えるといいなぁ。

Weekend Getaway 週末小旅行

My husband surprised me with a romantic weekend trip to Helen, GA as a Christmas gift and he also booked a cabin in the woods.  The grandparents offered to take the kids and we had a little vacation on our own  last weekend.

Helen is a small town with German-style buildings throughout the town.  You can pretty much see everything they have in 1 day.  It's a cute, touristy, tiny town.  I loved the sweets they had in German style cafe, I wish we had them here.

When we got to the cabin on Friday night, we couldn't see anything and I felt like I was in one of those horror movies where all the teenagers get killed while vacationing in woods.  Seriously, I couldn't sleep that night.

But it was a cute cabin with hot tub ( who doesn't love hot tub!?) and it was so nice to be able to just relax, have nice glass of wine and enjoy spending time with my husband.
He found this ↓ tin piggy bank at the wood bowl maker's store, he said he had the exact same piggy bank when he was a child, so we decided to get it for our son.  That's pretty special, I think.
We don't know when we get to go on next vacation without kids, but it was such a great surprise and I can't wait to go again!!

先週末は、クリスマスプレゼントとして旦那氏がこっそり予約していたヘレンと言う街に小旅行に出掛けてきました。
子供達を義両親に預け（ありがたや、そっち方面に足を向けて寝れません、もう）金曜から２泊3日の旅へ。
ヘレンはドイツの街を模した小さな小さな観光地。
建物全部が（行った事無いけど）ドイツを彷彿させるメルヘンチックな造りで、特に私のようなヨーロッパかぶれには感慨深い物があります。
1日あれば全てを網羅できる小ささだし、アトランタからは小1時間で着くし、カフェでは美味しいスイーツが食せるし、何とも手軽な観光地なのであります。

旦那氏が予約していた山小屋風キャビンは到着時真っ暗でマジ殺人鬼とかいるんじゃねーのって雰囲気で想像力豊かな私はその夜熟睡できず。
とは言え普段はできない、夫婦２人だけの時間を過ごせたのは本当に良かったし、何ともリフレッシュして帰ってきました。
帰り、うー後1日くらい滞在しても罰あたらんのでは…という考えが頭をよぎったのは子供達には内緒。


さて、上の写真は、とあるお店で見つけたアンティークの豚の貯金箱。
何でも旦那氏が子供の時に全く同じ物を持っていたそうな。
それに感動した夫、息子に土産として買う事に。もう少し大きくなったら教えてあげよう。

何ともつぶらな瞳のぶー。　我が家へようこそ。

5 minutes DIY! 5分でできるDIY

5 Minutes Washi tape light switch cover


When I went back to japan last year, Washi tape was everywhere.
You could find them in all sizes and every pattern imaginable, it was so much fun.
Now I see them in Target ( around $2.99 each) and Michaels, I'm sure other arts & crafts kind of stores will have them.  And I know some Etsy stores sell them, too.
They are so easy to apply and they peel off completely clean.  fantastic!

Ok,  here is our light switch cover for the Playroom.

All you need to do is take off the cover from the wall and apply the tape the way you like.
You can cover the whole surface like I did, or leave some space.  Or you can tape vertically, diagonally,  the possibility is endless.

I'm pretty happy with the way it came out.  I will keep posting the picture of the covers from the other rooms, too!

簡単過ぎて記事にする程の事もないんですが…
マスキングテープを使った電気スイッチカバーのリメイク。
前回日本に帰国した時にとにかく目についたマステ。もう柄もサイズも種類が豊富で
散々悩んで買ったのですが、もっと買えば良かったーと今更後悔。
こんなに使い勝手が良いとは！
話が脱線しましたが、コホん
子供部屋に改装中の部屋の電気スイッチカバーにマステ柄のテープを貼ったのみで完成。
作業時間５分で無機質だったカバーが一気に明るくなりました。
子供部屋なのでこれくらいカラフルでも気にならない、うん。

今はベッドルームの雰囲気に合うテープを探し中。
こちらでも最近は「和紙テープ」という名で売られているマスキングテープですが
日本に比べるとまだまだ柄も少ないし値段も少し高め。

こういう小さなリメイク一つでも気持ちはリフレッシュ。部屋の雰囲気も変わる気がします。

I'm back! ただいま、ご無沙汰しました

Wow, I can't believe my last post wan in September!  What have I been doing?

Anyway, time does fly when you're living with 2 kids.  Even though sometimes it feels like an eternity when you've got to stay home for a whole week because they're sick or something like that.  That's no fun for anybody for sure.

I went to see a friend of mine yesterday and she's on of those creative ones.  I get so inspired every time I see her and she makes me feel I have to do something.  But at the same time, to be super honest, I feel a bit jealous of her talent.  Right now, we're working on converting dining room to playroom, so that'll be my first project.  Make it cute and practical!  I always have so many things I want to, then somehow I end up not doing them.  I need to keep encouraging myself to take a first step to start working on those millions of projects, go me!!

昨日は久々に会う友人宅へ。

彼女は本当にクリエィティブで、いつも何か進行中の計画に溢れてる。

会う度によーし私も何かしなくちゃ！という気にさせられるんだけど、その高揚した気持ちとモチベーションを保つのは私にとってなかなか難しい課題。

子供が２人居ると〜とは言いつつも、寝ちゃった後に使える時間は数時間あるし、

そこを有効活用すればいいだけの事なんだよな。

考える前にまず行動。

これをモットーに今年は頑張ります。

今更今年の目標も何もないけど、何もないよりは、ね。

とまずは前向きに。うん。

さて、現在進行中の我が家のプロジェクトと言えば。

使っていなかったダイニングルームを子供達の遊び部屋に改装中。

まずはここからだな。

機能的かつ可愛い部屋を作るぞ。

そしていい加減海の部屋も何とかしないとね…。

課題は山積みだ。

けっぱれ、（北海道弁で”頑張れ”の意。）自分！　っしゃー！やるぞ。

Volunteer movie translation! 映画『うまれる ずっと、いっしょ。』翻訳ボランティア参加しました

I have had quite a few different kinds of jobs before and after moving to the US.  But I enjoyed the work that involved the translation the most.  I always loved reading and writing ever since I was a little girl, I guess I like plating with words, pretty nerdy, I know. '

Anyway,  my friend shared the story on FB that they were looking for volunteer translator for the upcoming movie.  I'm not sure what the English title will be, but this is the sequel to the documentary "Being Born".  The story of birth, family and life.

I immediately applied to volunteer and luckily, they picked me to translate about 10 minutes of the movie.  Then to my surprise, they asked me to do the trailer, too after I submitted the translation for my part.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen those movies yet, but the trailer itself is enough to make me cry, it'll be difficult to watch the whole movie without a box of tissue, I'm sure.
Let's hope it'll make to the US!





もう1ヶ月程前ですが、元同僚がフェイスブックにて『映画　うまれる、ずっと、いっしょ。』
制作スタッフが、翻訳ボランティアを募集してるとの記事を投稿しているのを発見。

これ迄翻訳の仕事は幾つかしてきましたが、映像の翻訳は未経験、でもこれは楽しそう、やってみたいとの好奇心が勝って、早速応募する事に。

短い翻訳のテストを含むフォームを送信後、数日で是非お願いしたいとの返答を頂きました。早速取りかかったものの、話し言葉を訳すのは簡単そうで意外に難しい。
何度も映像を繰り返し見ては、直訳でなく、その場の雰囲気、感情が伝わるように訳すように心掛ける。

やっと納得の行く訳が完成し、提出した数日後、また連絡を頂き、今度は予告編を訳して欲しいとの依頼を頂きました。
頑張った甲斐があった、何て光栄な、勿論喜んで引き受けました。

久しぶりに〆切までに何かをこなす事で、やり遂げたーっていう達成感を味わえて何とも新鮮な経験でした。

家事育児も労働だけれど、結果が目には見えないし、ここで終わりってのが無い中で、あぁ、私はこういう事に飢えていたんだなと改めて気付かされる。

って事で早速就職活動再開←単純なのは長所です。
日本帰省からアメリカに戻って来たら、社会復帰してやろうと目論見中。
待ってろよ、アメリカ社会。（立ち向かう相手がでかすぎですか）

話はそれましたが。
この映画、未公開なので全編は見てませんが、予告編だけでもう涙、涙。
命を真剣に、真っ正面から見据えて考える映画だと思う。
どうかアメリカでも上映されますように！

Yellowriver Game Ranch 週末動物ふれあいの旅

We have been planning to yale Amane to Yellowriver game ranch for a while because she loves animals so much.  Last weekend was a 3 day weekend , so we decided to go.

Their slogan is "Like a Zoo, only better".  Ok, sounds promising enough for me!  They have many different kind of animals, mostly farm animals, some of them you can pet and feed.  You can buy all different of stuff you can feed to them at the entrance. We bought dry corns and saltine crackers, because the lady at the casher told us they were the hit on that day.   The smell was pretty intense and animals are not really well groomed ( they are close to their natural state, I suppose ) but I enjoyed feeding goats, donkeys and my absolute favorite, Alpacas!  Oh, they are so cute even they make your hand soaking wet with dirt and spit...I still love them. 

Amane seemed to enjoy the encounters with animals, too.  She wanted to feed everyone.  

It was hot and smelly, but I think it was definitely worth it!  I want to go back again already, well, maybe when it's a little cooler.

先週末は3連休。

まだまだ暑いアトランタ、この時期の野外活動は極力避けてる北国育ちの私ですが、子供の為だ、と意を決し、ふれあい動物園　Yellowriver game ranchへ。

入口で入場料と動物の餌（店員さんイチオシの乾燥とうもろこしとクラッカー）を購入。

出会える動物は家畜系が中心で羊、山羊、豚、うさぎ、ろば、鹿などのどか系の子達。

と思ったら突如コヨーテとかも登場するので気が抜けない。

雨音も勇敢に次から次へと登場する動物にせっせと餌をあげておりました。

動物は大好きらしく全く物怖じもせず、自ら超至近距離に攻め入っていく女児。

中でも何故か山羊がお気に召したらしく、今でも「山羊ばいばいーい」と毎日口癖のように言っています。何でだ…

私が楽しみにしてたアルパカは、ものすごく臭くて、餌を手から食べると何故か手が泥だらけになるという謎の生命体でした。

そして3頭居るうちの1頭が半端ない受け口で、餌をたべずらそうにしてたのが忘れられません。でも可愛いな、アルパカ。

何はともあれ、暑くて臭くて動物達は何か薄汚れてたけど（自然に近い形にしてんのか）雨音は大興奮で大喜びだったし、旦那は小さい頃と1㍉も変わっていないこの場所でタイムスリップしたような気になれたし、私もごわごわのアルパカなでなでできたし、有意義な夏の１日でしたとさ。
